Heartworm Update

Recently we have been finding an increased number of heartworm positive dogs in the Atchison area. Heartworms are transmitted by mosquitoes. With the extremely wet spring season and lots of standing water, we are expecting an increase in the number of insect transmitted diseases. Treatment for heartworm is on average $350 for a medium sized dog and comes with many possible complications. For as little as $7 a month on average, heartworm can be prevented.
