Established in 1948, Atchison Animal Clinic is the longest running family owned Veterinary Clinic in the Northeast Kansas.  We are a team of intelligent, hard working, compassionate people that come together to provide outstanding veterinary health care to your animals.  Every team member is committed to providing excellent service and care, but each individual also has their own unique set of skills and experiences.  When all these talented people come together with a common goal the result is outstanding service, customer satisfaction, and animal health care.  Learn more about our remarkable team members below:

  • Dr. Chris Hansen

    Veterinarian, Clinic Owner

    Dr. Chris Hansen has been a veterinarian at the Atchison Animal Clinic since June 2011. He grew up the youngest of three boys on his family's farm in Belleville, KS.  He completed his primary and secondary education in Belleville, and was active in 4-H, FFA, and school sports.  After graduating from Belleville High School in 2002, Dr. Hansen attended Kansas State University and graduated with a B.S. in Animal Science and Industry in 2006 and his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2011. In 2017 Dr. Hansen purchased Atchison Animal Clinic. In his spare time Dr. Hansen enjoys camping, fishing, and spending time with his wife Dr. Emily Hansen and their 3 children, Olivia, Leah, and Connor.  His professional interests are food animal production medicine and small animal surgery.

  • Dr. Carrie Cowan

    Associate Veterinarian, Director of Personnel

    Dr. Carrie Cowan joined the practice in the spring of 2018. She previously practiced in a pre-dominantly cow-calf practice located in Fairbury, Nebraska--and brings with her a wealth of both large and small animal expertise. Dr. Cowan attended Kansas State University for both her bachelors and doctorate training, graduating KSU-CVM Class of 2015.  Carrie enjoys the variety of mixed animal practice, with special interests in equine medicine and animal behavior.

  • Dr. Jett Eder

    Associate Veterinarian

    Dr. Jett Eder joined the team at the Atchison Animal Clinic in the fall of 2017, after a couple years of mixed animal practice near his family’s home in Western Kansas. Jett graduated from Kansas State University’s College of Veterinary School in 2015. Prior to his veterinary training, Dr. Eder completed his Bachelors degree in Animal Science at Oklahoma State University—where he was a member of two national champion livestock judging and meat animal evaluation teams. In the clinic, Jett enjoys working with the variety a mixed animal practice provides—with special interest in soft tissue surgery, internal and preventative medicine. With his family’s background in showpig production and training in livestock selection—Dr. Eder enjoys evaluating livestock in his spare time—especially swine, genetic selection, and places tremendous value in youth development programs that promote involvement in animal agriculture.

  • Dr. Curtis Concannon

    Associate Veterinarian

    Dr. Curtis Concannon began working at Atchison Animal Clinic in September 2018. He is a native of Beloit, Kansas and attended college and graduate school in Manhattan. During his time at K-State, he earned his BS in Biology and his DVM at the College of Veterinary Medicine. He was also active in virology research – focused on PRRS, PED, and BVD. Curtis loves to watch football – especially the Wildcats and the Chiefs – and he is proficient in German. He also enjoys cooking and traveling to new parts of the world. Professionally, Curtis has interests in feline medicine and cardiology.

  • Dr. Isaac Fisher

    Associate Veterinarian

    Isaac joined Atchison Animal Clinic in June 2019. He grew up in a small town in western Colorado, as the third of eight children. Isaac attained a B.S. in Biology from Benedictine College before attending and graduating from Iowa State University with his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2019. His profession interests include small ruminant medicine and small animal surgery. In his free time, Isaac enjoys outdoor activities and games with his wife, Mary, and their two sons, Clifford and Dominic.

  • Corinne Knobbe

    Veterinary Assistant, Support Staff Coordinator

    Corinne joined Atchison Animal Clinic in May 2019. She attended Benedictine College, where she received her Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Personal Training, and Coaching. She then attended Kansas State University, where she received a second Bachelor's degree in Animal Science/Pre-Veterinary Medicine. Originally from Bonne Terre, MO, Corinne is currently living in Atchison, KS with her soon-to-be husband Bryce. They have 3 dogs, a siberian husky, Sly, and two golden retrievers, George and Angus. In her free time, she loves playing sports, hanging out with her dogs, hiking, and exploring national parks around the United States.

  • Kristy Burg

    Veterinary Assistant

    Kristy Burg has been with Atchison Animal Clinic since September 1997.  She and her husband Joe live in rural Lancaster with their three children: Josie born in 2011, Robert born in 2016, and Lucas in 2018.  Also in the family are pets Daisy Mae a Jack Russel  she adopted from the clinic when she was a puppy 12 years ago, Sylvester a cat adopted from the clinic and Frosty the cat recently adopted from the clinic, last but not least is Belle a stray kitty that found her way to their home.  Spending time with her family, pets and being outdoors is what she enjoys best.

    Megan Seifert began working at Atchison Animal Clinic in May 2019. She was active in FFA, 4-H, and dairy judging in high school. She attends Highland Community College, focusing on Agriculture. She is from Leavenworth, KS. Megan has 4 older brothers. In her free time, she likes to spend time with her rescue dog, Frank, work cattle, go mudding and just be outdoors.

    Emily joined Atchison Animal Clinic in November 2019. She graduated from Prairie View High School and currently studies Business at Johnson County Community College. Emily loves to go to the lake and fish. If you ever need a favor, just bring her tacos and cookie dough ice cream.

    Veterinary Assistant

    Tara hails from Effingham, Kansas and she is working toward an associates degree in Criminal Justice at Highland Community College. She joined Atchison Animal Clinic in 2019 because of her love for all animals, especially goats. At home, you'll find Tara in her garden, riding horses, hunting or fishing, or spending quality time with her adorable daughter, Rilee, who is two years old.

  • Krystalyn Iles-Lucius

    Pet Resort Manager

    Krystalyn joined Atchison Animal Clinic in August 2016. She attended Kansas State University where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science/Pre-Vet. She is currently taking online classes through Colby Community College to become a Veterinary Technician. In her free time she likes to shoot competition archery, spend time with family and her dog Donald.

  • Karen Birkinsha

    Pet Resort Hostess

    Karen Birkinsha has been with Atchison Animal Clinic since 1999. She lives in Atchison, with her husband Nelson, and their sons, Scott and Dylan. They have a French Bulldog named Callie Sue, who joined the family recently, much to the disgust of the resident cat, Theo. In her free time she is a big fitness enthusiast who enjoys biking and running, and whatever new challenges she comes across. She also enjoys being a football and wrestling mom.

    Maggie joined the AAC Pet Resort in September 2019. She graduated from Highland Community College, concentrating on Animal Science. She has worked in several fields in her life, but she brings over 12 years of experience working in veterinary clinics. She is a proud mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Maggie *loves* animals and art - you may see pieces of her work at the AAC Resort!

  • Sheli Cook

    Pet Resort Hostess

    Sheli grew up in Effingham, KS and moved to Atchison in 1994. She attended Highland Community College  and graduated in 2011 with a degree in Medical Office Assistance. She joined the AAC Resort in November 2019. Sheli is a mother of 6 and has 4 grandchildren - expecting 2 more this year! Her shih tzu, Boston, is her TV-watching buddy and she has 3 cats. Interests include being a Football Mom, spending time with grandkids and family, tattoos, and live music.
